The interschool equestrian competition commenced in Queensland in 1984 with other states following the Queensland model.  In that first year 170 riders competed in a competition that included dressage and showjumping.  This year the Australian Championships will see over 300 riders alone competing for the honour of representing their state at the national level with only the best riders being selected. 

The interschool competition has seen a number of riders go on to represent Australia in a number of equestrian sports from Jumping to Eventing and it is hoped that this extension of the competition to a national level will encourage more riders to continue in their sport.

In addition to Horseland, the local organising committee is benefiting from investment under the Queensland Events Regional Development Program, which is a state government initiative designed to take unique and creative regional events to their full potential.  Since the program began in 2001, more than $10 million has been invested in over 500 regional events.  The Toowoomba Regional Council has also provided significant support for the event.  We look forward to a successful event and to seeing some of our interschool riders representing their country in coming years.
