Nicola Turner, EFA National Office, Thursday, 25 September 2008

Fall of rider at an obstacle on XC results in elimination.

The Equestrian Federation of Australia National Eventing Committee has implemented the following rule into the National Eventing Rules for all levels of competition.

Fall of Rider at an obstacle during the cross-country phase results in elimination

Fall of Rider during the jumping test at CNC* level and above results in elimination

This rule is effective immediately.

NB: Fall of Rider in the jumping test at PN or below results in 8 penalties

Please circulate this information to all Riders and Officials. Any questions can be directed to the EFA National Office.

The rule is in keeping with the following FEI rule which was introduced on 01 August…

"Following a proposal from the Eventing Committee and the Safety Sub-Committee, the IOC and the FEI Burean have approved a change of rule for Eventing to apply for all events as from 1st August 2008 including the Olympic Games:

Competitors and horses will be eliminated after one fall at fence in the Cross-Country test and in the Jumping test.

Currently the rules state elimination after the first fall of the horse and the second fall of the rider. The reason for this change is firstly medical, resulting from the difficulty in medical evaluation of any fall in the field. Mild concussion together with a subsequent lapse in judgment could result into serious injury in Cross-Country."
