New EFA President, new Director on National Board
Russ Withers retires, Peter Hickson joins the Board and Geoff Sinclair becomes Chairman and EFA President
Shareholders (Branches) then voted to fill the three vacancies. Mary Seefried, Kerry Brydon and former WA Branch Chairman Peter Hickson were elected. Congratulations to all and and a warm welcome to Peter!
At a meeting of the "new Board" held following the AGM, Directors elected Geoff Sinclair to become the Chairman and President of the EFA. Congratulations and best wishes for a successful term of office!
The outgoing Chairman Russ Withers farewelled during the Cocktail Party held to welcome EFA National Forum Delegates and to present the first EFA National Sport Achievement Awards. Russ has made an enormous contribution to Equestrian Sport, and the National Board awarded him the EFA Order of Merit, the highest level of recognition the EFA can bestow under its new EFA Member Recognition Policy.
Russ has held numerous positions in the sport. He was Chairman of Team Equestrian, generating funds to support major overseas campaigns. He was Manager of the Australian Equestrian Team, which saw him as Chef de Mission for the 1994 and 1998 World Equestrian Games and AOC Equestrian Section Manager for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. For this, Russ received the distinction of "Administrator of the Year" at the 1996 Telstra Australian Sports Award.
Russ is a member of the Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee and will be Assistant Chef de Mission for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with special responsibilities for Sailing and Equestrian, both of which will have their competitions held at distant venues.
We will miss you, Russ, but will take you up on your promise to keep contributing to the sport, albeit on a more "casual" basis.
