24th September 2008 - Expression of Interest to provide a Loan Horse
Please note that selected horses will be required to arrive at Sydney International Equestrian Center (SIEC) on Monday, 12 January 2009 and will finish their competition program in the afternoon of Sunday, 18th January 2009.

The fourth Australian Youth Olympic Festival will be held 14-18 January 2009 and will have over 2000 athletes from across the world competing in a number of Summer Olympic sports.

The AYOF is organised by the Australian Olympic Committee.  The main aim of the AYOF is to develop our Olympic stars of the future, and to provide aspiring Olympians an insight into what the Olympics are all about. The AYOF incorporates many aspects that athletes will experience in an Olympic Games - Opening and Closing ceremonies, medal presentations, athletes’ villages and drug testing.

For the second time, the AYOF will include Equestrian events in the disciplines of Dressage and Jumping. The competition will be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

The EFA is taking nominations for team members until 17 May 2008.  Riders must be aged between 15 years and 20 years (born between 01 January, 1989 and 31 December, 1994).

The Jumping competition will be at a maximum height of 1.15m (1.20m in the Final) and the Dressage competition uses the FEI Junior tests, which are equivalent to AUS Medium level (see below for download). The event is with “borrowed horses”. All riders who nominate are asked to supply two horses to be used in the competition; all horses will be put into a pool to be drawn out by the teams.

To assist owners with travelling and other costs, the EFA will provide a subsidy of $500 for one horse and $750 for two horses. Stabling and basic feed will be provided as well as accommodation (camp sites or cabins) and meals for the groom of the horse/s.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an Olympic experience. In addition, the EFA will incorporate this event, the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and the 2011 AYOF, in which Equestrian will also be part, into the EFA National Youth Development program.
