A message from Heath
Tuesday, 26 May
Heath’s operation occurred this morning and all went very well. He is awake following the operation ad says that he is ‘just fine’. Heath has hinted that now his heart is fixed he may have more energy in the future!!
Heath was present at the auction over the weekend and was up and about talking to everyone again saying that he felt “just fine”.
Rozzie would also like to once again thank all of the wonderful people who have sent their best wishes to Heath and herself.

Hi All,
Totally grateful for the amazing response from everybody wishing me to get well. There are so many well wishers I am drowning and feeling guilty because I'm not answering everyone email. Every single one of the well-wishes is personal and so I am embarrassed. This is just q quick update to everybody so that at least I have done something. The hospital at Campelltown from 17th to the 20th and then John Hunter Hospital (JHH) from the 20th to the 22nd were fantastic. I had four tests done at the JHH on Thursday 21st, all of which had over a 16 day waiting list. I had some amazing support from a Doctor Levi in Campelltown and then from Doctors Mark Parsons, and long time friend, Doctor Geoff Tyler at the JHH. Bit embarrassing really, its not what you know.
I was discharged on Friday 22nd because we had our auction in the Southern Highlands, just south of Sydney at Sutton Forest over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th. I think the hospital could feel trouble coming and bailed out much to Rozzie's concern. The auction went brilliantly despite the current economic times and my staff, which is mainly made up of girls between 16 and 25 were absolutely brilliant and drew comment from all quarters.
I am back home today, Monday 25th May and being admitted back into hospital , Lake Macquarie Private for a hole operation in my heart. Basically what happened was I had a clot in my leg, courtesy of flying back from LA on the 28th April. Apparently clots happen in about 40% of flyers but usually goes to the heart and then back to the lungs where they dissolve and are never heard of again. Apparently 25% of people have a hole in the heart, and most of these people will never know, however, if all the stars freakishly line up then the clot can slip through the hole instead of going back down to the lungs, get in your arterial system and visit the brain. Bugger me, that’s what happened. The result was a stroke at 6.15am on Sunday 17th May. Pretty harmless really, but scared the hell out of me and I did cop some brain damage, much to Rozzie's amazement. Basically the Doctor's say that there is nothing they can do about the stroke and that I should get off my backside and do physio and get back to normal as soon as possible. Every morning when I wake up, I have improved out of sight. I spend most of the day feeling drunk and weave my way down pathways much to everyone else's horror. People in the distance I can see 2 of, but anyone close, I now have single vision.
The operation happening tomorrow is simply a bit of sponge plugging up the hole. Simple as that. Means I can never have a stroke again in my life courtesy of DVT (clot from flying). This is so much guaranteed I will not even be on any medication in the future. Got a Grand prix test at Alexander Park on Sunday 31st (this weekend) which I may or may not be able to do. The following weekend is Melbourne 3DE where I have Mystery Whisper entered in the Advanced and right now I have every intention of starting. It is possible I may not get there, but we will see. Just at the moment the course would look twice as difficult as normal. Just need to get out there.
Thank you very much for your thoughts.
Heath.

Good News for Heath!
Doctors at the Hunter Hospital now feel that Heath Ryan’s condition has been caused by a thrombosis blood clot travelling from his leg to his brain, and that this can be treated and allow Heath to make a full recovery. Heath is currently in fine form, trying to run the world from his hospital bed. Doctors have refused Rozzie Ryan’s suggestion of an induced coma, and she fears chaining him to the bed may be the only way to allow his body to recover.
Heath and Rozzie send their best wishes to all the people who have been so concerned. According to Rozzie, ‘the response has been over-whelming, people have been so kind.’
Heath looks forward to being back on the scene bigger and better than ever…

An MRI late yesterday afternoon confirmed that Heath Ryan suffered a minor stroke last Sunday.
It is expected that Heath will be able to make a full recovery quite quickly provided he does not try to do too much in the immediate future.
Rozzie has confiscated his phone in an attempt to make him rest.
At present his speech is perfectly normal but he is still suffering dizziness when he walks. It is hoped that he will be transferred to John Hunter Hospital today where he will have access to one of Australia's best neurologists.
Rozzie would like to say a "huge thank you" to everyone for their support. "We have been totally overwhelmed by so many kind people. Everyone has been wonderful beyond words."
Rozzie apologises for not replying to everyone's messages but she has been inundated and simply could not get back to everyone.
Many people have been visiting Heath which has been great but Rozzie has asked if you do go and see him please keep the visit brief (5-10 mins) so that he is able to get some rest.

Heath will undergo further tests including an MRI this afternoon which should be helpful in determining what has happened. It is possible that he has suffered a minor stroke but that is speculation at this stage.
It is hopeful that he will be released from Campbelltown hospital tomorrow and Rozzie says that he is speaking perfectly normally but is still suffering dizziness.
Heath was admitted on Sunday morning after becoming very unwell at the Camden CIC. He was not riding at the time. We wish Heath a speedy recovery and will keep you up to date with his condition.
