Equestrian Australia and Equine Veterinarians Australia present the 2009 FEI Veterinarians Course.
This course is a pre-requisite for accreditation of FEI veterinarians in all International Equestrian and FEI disciplines.
The course leader will be Dr Nigel Nichols, President of the Veterinary Commission, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and will feature prominent Equine Veterinarians from FEI sports. The course is timed to coincide with Sydney International 3-Day Event.
Topics covered will include:
- Understanding the FEI, its structure and philosophy
- Role of the Official Veterinarian in all FEI horse sports including Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing and Endurance
- Fitness to compete
- FEI Medication Control Program
- Guidelines facilitating temporary international transport of competition horses
- Exercise physiology – managing the equine athlete
- Rescue and retrieval of the injured horse
- Management of soft tissue injuries of performance horses
- Intra-articular therapies – indications and techniques
