EA is pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of its European Traning Scholarship are Tom McDermott (Jumping), Charlie Brister (Eventing) and Stuart Archibald (Dressage).
The scholarships will provide the recipients with the opportunity to travel to Europe where they will ride and work at a number of top class training establishments including Australia's European training base in Lastrup, Germany.
Young Eventer Charlie Brister is looking forward to gaining overseas experience.
"The current Olympics have shown how strong the German eventing team has become so this scholarship is a great opportunity to learn their way of training and improve my riding so that I am more able to produce top level eventing horses," Charlie said.
Show Jumper Tom McDermott is already in Europe and is aware of the benefits of spending time abroad.
"I am making the most of the opportunity by training and working hard to learn as much as I can. The scholarship has allowed me to compete at shows in Germany and gain valuable international competition experience. I have been able to watch and learn how the top riders prepare and compete at shows and I hope now that I can come home and put it all into practice" Tom said. " I would like to thank the EA Patrons and EA for funding the scholarship and providing me with this opportunity," he added.
More than 50 applications were received for the three scholarships. Applicants were assessed on the following criteria:
