The final day of the Melbourne Interanational Three Day event saw some standout performances
Tim Boland and GV Billy Elliot have capped off their weekend at the Melbourne International Three Day Event with victory in the CCI3*. The combination led the class from start to finish, earning a personal best score on Dressage day, recording a pleasing time around a wet cross country track on Sunday and jumping clear and within time in Monday’s Show Jumping phase. A clear Show Jumping round by Shane Rose and APH Moritz moved them from fifth to second overall with Craig Barrett and Wendela Jamie rounding out the top three.
In front of a packed crowd, which included the Federal Sports Minister, Senator Kate Lundy, Tim thanked his parents and support network which includes his girlfriend Sophie Adams who finished ahead of Tim in the CCI2* event.
“I’m 41 and my mum and dad follow me around everywhere and without mum and dad we’re all nothing, so thanks to them. I’d also like to thank my girlfriend Sophie who upstaged me in the two star and my wonderful support crew, but most of all I’d like to thank Billy Elliot, he’s an absolute superstar and I’m very proud to ride a horse like this,” Boland said.
Placings changed but the top three riders in the CCI2* remained the same. After a clear round Mattea Davidson and Fairbanks Cargo moved from second position to win the class while Sophie Adams and Mercator Du Ry had just a single rail down to move them from third to second. Robert Palm and Koko Black were relegated to third after incurring eight jumping penalties.
Natalie Davies and El Grado who were in eighth position after Dressage, moved into fourth after cross country and were eventual winners of the CCI1* after a clear round in the Show Jumping phase. The class leader after cross country, Amanda Ross and Loxley, had to settle for second position after incurring eight Show Jumping penalties. Chelsea Priestley and Blameitonthebear also picked up eight Jumping penalties and finished in third position overall.
In the CCIJ* Naomi White and Mighty Tosca led the class through all three phases and a clear round in today’s Jumping phase capped off a great weekend for the combination. Sheridan Sullivan and Talent Thyme ended their campaign in second place and Alice Scamps-Goodman and As Tully were clear and under time to move from seventh after cross country to third overall.
