Jacque Wright, Friday, 6 July 2012 A fresh approach for the 2012 World Endurance Championship (WEC) team took them to Equathon Equestrian centre at Noosa North Shore QLD.
Only 60 days before the 2012 WEC being held at Euston Park UK, this weekend facilitated by the Chef de Quip, Peter Toft, brought together riders, grooms and expert speakers; Chris Burke, Jackie Byrnes and Ruth White.
Squeezing in four days of work into two, a hectic pace was set. Chris Burke of IRT was to the point and informative dispelling concerns about the long trip to and from the event. The air shipment is the most significant cost to each of the team and the biggest concern. The horses fly from Melbourne the 8 August on the same service as Australia’s Paralympic Team. Chris did a great presentation.
Jackie Byrnes then took the riders focus from their horse with her fantastic two part presentation on rider’s fitness and nutrition. Core strength and everyday exercises in addition to eating well, Jackie gave a motivational speech to the team for this year and their riding career.
Saturday lunch time during low tide was when the riders used the opportunity of such a great location and rode the horses to the beach for a stretch.
Sunday was a busy day as Narelle Cribb, the team vet, examined all the horses. Ruth White, EA Level 1 coach, gave each rider a private lesson in addition to riding every horse.
After the weekend the team had been brought together with greater knowledge and skills to improve their opportunity of a successful 2012 WEC campaign under the direction of Equestrian Australia.
