Promotion to FEI Level 3 status course

Jumping FEI Course Designers learn with Werner Deeg

Werner Deeg (GER), straight after building at NZ Horse of the Year and the Sydney Royal Easter Show, conducted two courses for our FEI Course Designers.  Werner was assisted by John Vallance (AUS).  Despite the Sydney regions unexpected mini heatwave during the entire 9 days of presenting in a non-air-conditioned venue, Werner and John didn’t miss a beat and held all participant's attention the entire time. Tough mob our AUS/NZ and even the German CD!

The first course, a six-day promotion to FEI Level 3 status finished with both Mark Atkins (NSW) and Gavin Chester (VIC) successfully completing all criteria required to be listed on the FEI Officials list as L3. Kevin Tully (WA) and Phillipa Howells (NZ) also passed with some criteria still to complete in the coming months.  A massive congratulations to all!

The second course was a Refresher course – criteria to remain as an FEI CD is to attend one seminar every three years.  At this course, a nice balance between the Kiwis and the Aussies and EA welcome the opportunity we have with NZ to share the load of these FEI courses. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Course Design: David Sheppard.

The courses were held at Sydney Jump Club Grounds at Clarendon, NSW and I would like to thank David Lawrence and the SSJC committee for their assistance with conference facilities and jumping gear – everything worked very well.

ENSW and Jumping NSW also funded a National course for Jumping Judges (Jan Golding – Course Director) and Course Designers (Brad Longhurst – Course Director).

A Masterclass with Werner was organised as part of the National course and included a BBQ to allow for a bit of social time!  Werner discussed the history of Jumping and some of the changes that have occurred to make the sport what it is today.
