IMPULSION

March 2011

Welcome

Welcome to our March issue of Impulsion. Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the terrible situation that our Japanese friends are enduring. We have been in communication with the Japanese Equestrian Federation to offer them our full support and any assistance required. We  and have been monitoring the situation as it evolves and we wish them the best possible resolution of the situation and recovery.
In the latest correspondence from Yasuhiko Haruta, Managing Director of the JEF, explained that there had not been any loss of people from the Equestrian community to thier knowledge and that they had moved many horses out of the affected areas.  However they are struggling to get supplies of hay, bedding and feed to the horses due to transportation issues as a result of "fuel shortage and road damages." Haruta said improvements were happening little by little, but that radiation remains a major concern.
It was great for the Equestrian Australia to be involved in the signing of EADRA at Parliament House on Thursday 3rd March. This event marks the culmination of years of hard work by the diverse sectors of the horse industry.
With the horse industry becoming party to the EADRA, they are now assured of support and inclusion in the decision-making process in the event that an emergency disease response is required.

Government and industry will continue to work together to improve biosecurity practices at all levels.

The EADRA is a formal, legally binding agreement between Animal Health Australia, the Australian government, all state and territory governments and livestock industry signatories. It covers the management and funding of emergency animal disease incidents. Its full title is ‘Government and Livestock Industry Cost Sharing Deed in respect of Emergency Animal Disease Responses’.
The qualification requirements for our Eventing team to gain entry in to 2012 London Olympics has now been announced as the 8th – 11th September in conjunction with the CCI *** event being conducted in Blenheim. The qualification requirements for our Dressage team are yet to be announced, we are currently working with the FEI to finalise the date with the date likely to be finalised within the next month.
I also had the opportunity to visit the site where the Queensland State Equestrian Centre is being built at Coolbuture. The main structure of the complex has been built and the facility will provide a great venue for the Equestrian Queensland and interstate members in the future. Well done to all those involved in the development of the project. During the past month I have also attended National Federation briefings with the Australian Paralympic Committee and the Australian Olympic Committee. The excitement is starting to build into London.

The qualifying Events for the 2011 Equestrian Grand Final have been finalised and kick off with this week’s PSI Dressage and Jumping with the Stars to host the first Dressage qualifier.  We thank all the organising committees who submitted Expressions of Interest and congratulate the successful events.

Australia defeat New Zealand on their home turf
The annual jumping Test Event against New Zealand is always a first rate competition and no matter the level of firepower Australia may think it has for this competition, the Kiwis always respond in the most challenging of ways and make sure there is no easy win for anyone once the course is walked and the bell has rung.
