Moving Right Along

February started with a few National meetings. The National Board met 04 February 2007 under its new Chair Geoff Sinclair. You can download a summary of business conducted. The National Eventing Committee met the day before and the National Jumping Committee and the World Cup Jumping Committee one week later.

Northern Territory

The National Board has proposed a transfer of NT membership and club administration to the Queensland Branch, to ensure full-time professional sport services. You can download a copy of the discussion paper.

Key EFA National and Queensland Branch officials had planned to visit Darwin and Alice Springs in the week commencing 05 March 2007, to explain the plans to NT members. Unfortunately, these meetings could not be arranged in Darwin. The meetings will now take place on Monday, 04 and Tuesday, 05 June 2007.

The EFA has written to the ACDS proposing new terms of affiliation. For more background go to the Carriage Driving page.

Want to work overseas?

An organisation called International Exchange Programs has approached us to make our members aware of opportunities particularly in the USA to combine work and leisure in your sport. You could, for example, volunteer to work at summer riding camps. More info.

How things work in the EFA

This month's issue covers some aspects of membership and a proposal for a new club-based membership system. More info.

Dressage Committee nominations close 28 February 2007

There is still a chance for you to nominate for a place on the newly-restructured EFA Dressage Committee. More details ....

Regional Olympic Dressage Team Qualifier

Planning is continuing for this important event. The FEI has now approved the competition concept for the qualifier, which will be incorporated in the 2007 Horseland Australian Dressage Championships held 25 - 28 October 2007.

We have had approaches from three Group VIII countries, although quarantine requirements will make it difficult for one of these.  We will write to all Federations in Groups VII, VIII & IX next week outlining what is planned for the qualifier and what the quarantine requirements are.

2008 National Jumping Championships

The National Jumping Committee is calling for expressions of interest to conduct the 2008 National Jumping Championships.  EOIs should be sent to the National Office before 31 March 2007.

You can find guidelines for the conduct of National Championships in the 2007 EFA Addendum to FEI Jumping Rules.

Sport Rules

Please note that the Dressage Young Horse Rules and Tests have been updated for Young Horse classes. The qualification procedure for the FEI World Cup for Young Dressage Riders is also available.

Following the February 2007 meeting of the National Jumping Committee, there have been some changes to Jumping Rules.

High Performance

German Jumping Trainer Gilbert Böckmann has just completed a series of Jumping clinics with National and State Squad members. Their response has been overwhelmingly positive and will increase competition to take part in future clinics.

As far as the National Dressage Advisor is concerned, we have had a great response from around the world to our invitation for expressions of interest for this position.  The Dressage High Performance Panel is now evaluating the applications.

Those of you who visit our home page regularly will have seen the news items on the great result for Australian riders on the FEI Eventing Rider Ranking list (OUR CONGRATULATIONS!) and one day later on Phillip Dutton's switch to the US of A.

Volunteer Survey

Volunteering Australia invites all volunteers and not-for-profit organisations that involve volunteers to participate in the 2007 National Survey of Volunteering Issues.

The National Survey of Volunteering Issues helps Volunteering Australia understand what issues are emerging in the sector and what factors help and hinder effective volunteering. Volunteering Australia uses this information to formulate policy positions to put to government, and also to target where further research and consultation efforts should be directed.

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete. The survey is open until the end of February and can be accessed by clicking here

The 2007 National Survey of Volunteering Issues report will be released during National Volunteer Week 2007 (14-20 May). Limited numbers of paper (hard) copies of the survey will be available upon request, while electronic versions will be published online via the Volunteering Australia website (www.volunteeringaustralia.org).

Don't get burnt by underinsurance

A report released by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission suggests that:

  • up to 80% of homeowners fail to correctly value their home and contents, and
  • up to 59% have insured their home for less than 70% of the cost to rebuild.

Our brokers Aon have produced a leaflet "Don't get burnt by underinsurance" which provides an insight to the underinsurance problems in Australia and tips on how you can better calculate the replacement value on your home and contents and reduce the risk of being out of pocket in the event of a claim.

And don't forget that API Gold provides premium discounts of up to 20% on your personal insurances as well as benefits such as 24-hour online access and paperless claims.

Supporters and Sponsors

I cannot close without thanking our funding agencies, sponsors and supporters.

In particular, we would like to mention
