Nominations

This e-news is rather short and a couple of days late. I eventually got an internet connection on Friday at the Lingen CDI 5-Star in Germany, the final Olympic nomination event for Australian Dressage riders, but the network failed half-way through the morning. The Internet situation is a bit better in the hotel at Pforzheim (also in Germany), but I don't think I'll be able to catch up with all the mail in a hurry after the enormous e-mail backlog developed over a few days.

Pforzheim is the place where the Jumping riders had their first nomination event. Both the Lingen and Pforzheim shows ran as well as expected although some riders will not be too happy with their results.

The Jumping High Performance Panel organised in informal reception at the Team hotel on Saturday night. The whole Australian delegation including riders, owners, grooms and selectors attended. Special guests included Hans Guenter Winkler, the most successful Jumping rider of all times, a German Princess and a Count and a couple of top-level German Jumping riders. Mr. Winkler is closely connected with the Pforzheim CSI and through Jumping Coach Gilbert Böckmann made it possible for us to have eight riders compete at this event. Thank you very much!

As mentioned earlier, I will keep the "copy" of this e-mail very brief on this occasion but would like to mention a couple of items. You can find the rest on our web right now (and more over the next few days).

Measuring

We have published new Measuring rules on our web. The rules become effective 01 July 2008.

Olympic Selection/Nomination

It appears that some media are running stories stating that the Australian Dressage Team has been selected. This is not correct. No selection has been made as yet.

The nomination and selection procedure is outlined below:

  • 30 May: Dressage Selection Meeting (Lingen).
  • 10 June: Eventing Selection Meeting (Melbourne).  To be followed by teleconference following Luhmühlen CCI 4-Star
  • 15 June: Jumping Selection Meeting (Aach, Germany)
  • 17 – 19 June: AUS-based Eventing horses compulsory final vet checks (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide)
  • 24 & 25 June: Compulsory vet checks for Jumping & Dressage Teams plus reserves at Gilbert Böckmann’s (Lastrop, Germany).
  • 27 June: Compulsory final vet checks UK-based horses at Graham Potts Clinic
  • 30 June: Olympic Shadow Team notified of selection or non selection by phone by the respective Chairs of Selectors and High Performance Manager.
  • 02 July: Deadline for notification of intent to appeal against non-selection
  • 03 July: EFA nominates team to AOC
  • 04 July: Olympic Team announced by AOC.

Following the two nomination events at Wiesbaden and Lingen, Hayley Beresford and Relampago de Retiro have now been added to the National Elite Dressage Squad and, therefore, to the “Olympic Shadow Team”.  Congratulations to Hayley, her trainer Isabel Werth and owner Eduardo Fischer!
