CEO Letter to Members

19 July 2019

Dear Members,

On Monday, the Coronial Inquest into the tragic deaths of Olivia Inglis and Caitlyn Fischer will resume. Four days of hearings will be held next week which are in addition to ten days of hearings in May.

Equestrian Australia is fully co-operating with the Crown Solicitor’s Office to assist the Coroner in investigating and addressing any issues raised throughout the Coronial investigation process.

Caitlyn Fischer and Olivia Inglis are both greatly missed by our equestrian community every day, and we continue to mourn their loss and work hard for the improvement of safety in our sport.

I extend my sincere condolences to the families of Olivia Inglis and Caitlyn Fischer. The next week will undoubtedly be a very difficult time for them and our entire equestrian community.

I will be attending the Inquest on behalf of EA and will provide an update to members at the conclusion of the proceedings.

Making sure our sport is the safest we can make it for the thousands of people who participate in equestrian sports every week around Australia is my priority.

Earlier this month I sent a note to members about the safety initiatives we have undertaken since early 2016. In our commitment to improved safety, we are constantly building on these actions by being proactive, transparent and ‘best practice’ when it comes to safety and risk mitigation.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improved safety, we are in the process of hiring a full-time National Safety Manager and I look forward to updating you on the outcome of this appointment.

Kind regards,

Lucy Warhurst
