COACH OF THE MONTH Emily Anker

COACH OF THE MONTH is a regular Education series on our website. It is a way of highlighting the EA coaches and educators who work with dedication and passion all over Australia.

Emily Anker is an EA Level Two Eventing Coach, based in Yellingbo, VIC.

"I have been interested in horses my whole life. I was three when I got my first pony, as my family run a riding school called Wandin Riding Academy. The riding bug bit me early and turned me into the passionate eventer I now am.

It was amazing to grow up with my family running Wandin Horse Trials, which celebrated its 33rd-year last year. Over the years, Wandin Horse Trials have brought over many international guests, such as Captain Mark Phillips, for course designing etc. Some of these guests also used to stay on for training clinics post-event where I had the opportunity to be exposed to amazing trainers.

So, it's safe to say I have been competing in Eventing my whole life!

I have had some success at CCI5*-L on a number of horses. My most memorable horse to date is Balmoral Cavalier, who allowed me to compete at Rolex, Badminton, Burghley and Luhmulen 5* events.

Aside from that, I'm a full-time coach. Together, with my husband, Will Enzinger, we run a training facility called Yarra Valley Eventing. We also have our beautiful son, Ethan.

I have always pushed myself to be better and am eager to learn more, I suppose this is what has led me into the coaching space. I really like supporting and guiding riders through their journey, whatever level it is. All I ask of my students is to work hard and practice, I expect this of myself so I certainly expect this of them too!

Currently, as far as my riding goes, I am bringing through my next team of horses in Eventing, where I am training to reach CCI5*-L. In my coaching, I will continue to question and source more Professional Development opportunities to help me grow as a coach and better support my students."
