What should I do if I experience an incident or accident of any sort?

For coaches who are insured through the EA insurance scheme:

Should an incident occur which may give rise to a claim, or you receive an allegation against you of negligence or if you are concerned about any scenario, please contact Marsh immediately - 1300 130 373.

Marsh can advise on how to handle the situation in terms of recording information, responding to any concerns and protecting your position. If necessary, they can also trigger a claim under the insurance policies which will provide access to legal advice and defence for you under the Public Liability and Professional Indemnity policies. An excess of $2,500 applies to Public Liability claims for Property Damage and Professional Indemnity claims.

It should also be noted that the Professional Indemnity Insurance is a “Claims Made” policy which means that it is a policy condition that any potential claim is notified to insurers in the policy period that you first became aware of the potential claim. This highlights the importance of prompt notification. It should also be noted that notifying a claim will not prejudice your position in terms of the rates charged for the EA Coach Insurance and in fact will give insurers the best chance of defending and protecting your position.

For coaches who have sourced their own insurance:

Should an incident occur which may give rise to a claim, or you receive an allegation against you of negligence or if you are concerned about any scenario, we would strongly recommend contacting your insurance company to seek advice.
