Australia places fourth at Boekelo

The 2014 FEI Nations Cup for Eventing finale held at Boekelo (NED) proved to be an exciting conclusion to the 2014 series with less than ten penalties separating the top 14 combinations.

Following a strong cross country performance, Australia rose from sixth to second position before Sunday’s show jumping phase. Paul Tapner and Indian Mill also moved up to second position individually following a successful cross country round but an unfortunate six  rails on show jumping day saw the combination slip down the ladder.

Sam Griffiths (Favorit Z) produced a clear jumping round which saw the pair finish in 26th position.

Chris Burton (Haruzac) accumulated two rails in the showjumping which saw them move from 8th to 15th position and Kevin McNab (Casperelli) finished in 43rd position following time penalties and two rails in the show jumping.

Reserve team member 26 year old Emma Dougall and her ten year old gelding Belcam Bear finished in fourth place individually following a clear cross country and show jumping round.

Overall the Australian team shared 3rd place with The Netherlands but was moved to 4th on a countback. Sam Griffiths took to social media to praise his mount’s result on the weekend.

“Wow- I couldn't fault Favorit's performance (apart from his dislike to his appearance in the TV screen!!) He jumped the most lovely round today in the showjumping to complete a great double clear at Boekelo. He will now enjoy a very well deserved holiday and I can't wait for 2015 on him!!” said Griffiths.
