Equestrian Australia welcomes additional ASC funding support for participation programs

Equestrian Australia (EA) will receive a funding boost from the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to be geared towards participation initiatives.

The ASC Investment Announcement for 2015/16, which was recently announced by the Minister for Sport, the Hon. Sussan Ley MP, includes an additional $83,000 in participation funding for EA.

EA will receive $3,060,000 in Australian Sports Commission funding in 2015/16 of which $420,000 will go towards participation initiatives (this is an increase of $83,000 on the previous year). The remaining $2,640,000 is allocated to EA’s High Performance Programs (Olympic and Paralympic disciplines) and is unchanged from FY 2014/15.

EA’s High Performance programs are solely funded by the ASC, with no member fees attributed to the HP program.

EA’s participation funding is largely directed towards programs aimed at the youth market but also encompasses funding for education.

Equestrian Australia CEO, Grant Baldock said the additional investment would support existing programs but would also allow for the development of new initiatives.

“EA welcomes the ASC’s ongoing financial support of our participation and high performance programs.

“The additional participation funding allows us to invest more resources into programs and initiatives aimed at growing participation levels among young people.

“We’ve seen strong membership growth amongst juniors in the last 12 months and the additional funding will support expansion of programs that will drive participation rates even further.

“It also demonstrates the ASC’s confidence in EA’s programs and our ability to deliver successful junior participation initiatives,” he said.
