Lisa Martin finishes fourth

NSW para-equestrian athlete Lisa Martin has produced a stunning dressage ride to finish fourth in the Team Test Grade Four at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The 44-year-old aboard her horse First Famous, scored 72.31% under the blazing Rio sun.

Martin was so thrilled with her ride, she pumped the air as she exited the arena.

“It was just all this build up. It was amazing, and the crowd was just incredible, so yeah, really loved it,” Martin said.

Martin, who is competing at her first Paralympic Games, was full of praise for her mare.

“She was amazing, just incredible. She just gave everything. She is really feeling the heat and she kept wanting to give more and more.”

Martin says the conditions were very tough.

“They’re hot. You know, we’re still coping with the heat. But, you know, these horses are tough.”

Martin’s Australian teammates Katie Umback (68%) and Sharon Jarvis (65.921%) competed on Sunday, and Emma Booth will round out the Australian team on Tuesday with her horse Zidane.

The team score is determined by adding the percentages of each individual rider together, using the combined results of the top three athletes.
