Tom Mcdermott and Elegance De La Charmille Claim Victory in the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Senior Jumping Championship Final

The dreary weather wasn’t a deterrent for the crowds of spectators that made the journey to Boneo Park on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, for the hotly contested Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Senior Jumping Championship Final today.

Eighteen of Australia’s best jumping riders took to the main arena in an attempt to claim the prestigious title. The combinations started in reverse seeded order following the previous two days of competition to ensure the most consistent combination emerged victorious.

The Gavin Chester designed course challenged even the countries best and most experienced riders with only one combination, Katie Laurie riding Casebrook Lomond, jumping clean in round one.

Excitingly this years Pryde’s Easifeed Australian Jumping Championships offered Australian based athletes who are vying for a place on the Australian Team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games the unique opportunity to obtain their full MER (Minimum Eligibility Requirement), earning them eligibility to be considered for team selection.

Twelve combinations that completed the first round with a score of not more than eight (8) penalties secured their qualification for Tokyo 2020 today.

Amidst the excitement of the competition it was NSW rider Tom Mcdermott who jumped to victory aboard Elegance De La Charmille. This latest triumph rounds out the ‘title set’ for Tom who has now won the prestigious Junior Australian Champion, Young Rider Australian Champion and Senior Australian Champion titles in the course of his career.

“I don’t know where to start. I’d like to thank everyone, and a big thanks to Boneo for running such a great show, obviously we know the conditions have been hard and they have done the best that they can. It is a top class facility and show and we couldn’t be happier to be here.

I’d like to thank all of my sponsors. I’d like to thank Pryde’s EasiFeeds for sponsoring the event. This little mare is such a great little horse, she loves pressure and she is such a fighter” said Tom of his latest win.

FEI Assessing Delegate, Kaye Williams from New Zealand, who attend the event as a requirement for the Tokyo 2020 qualifications said “to have 12 horses with 8 or less in the first round to make the qualifier is fantastic, it shows the standard of Australian showjumping which I think is very high. I think the course was right up there, it was beautifully built and it was a great competition.”

High Performance Jumping Manager Todd Hinde was in attendance for the duration. “Today’s competition saw a great track designed by Gavin Chester, building a solid Olympic Qualifier. It is great to be able to offer Australian based riders the opportunity to obtain their Olympic Qualification here at the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Jumping Championships

A congratulations must be extended to Tom Mcdermott and his mare Charmille on winning the National Championship title. Well done to all riders competing here this weekend, the standard of competition has been strong through out all the titles”
