Work together win together
We met with the State CEOs Mid-June and provided an update on how our Health, Safety and Welfare Plan fitted into The National Strategy and more specifically the deliverables for the balance of the year. The idea of this was to ensure linkage to existing State based activities, the avoidance of duplication and enable ongoing collaboration with clubs and committees around implementation.
Deliverable for the balance of the year include:
-Work on minimum medical standards for dressage and jumping to clarify the provision of medical support at competitions with an eye to balancing the necessary provision of medical support with the practical realities of cost and logistics.
-Review of Coronial Recommendation Implementation
-Proposal for basic Incident Response Plans tailored to disciplines (IRP).
The Health ,Safety and Welfare team meeting with the State CEOs has been scheduled monthly for the balance of the year.
Safety System Familiarisation
Whilst at the Melbourne International 3 Day Event, the EA Board Vice Chair Stephanie Lyons took the opportunity to familiarise herself with the safety systems at the event and meet some of the many people involved.
Jo Crosby and her stewarding team explained their role working with the Vet at the end of the cross country where every horse that starts on cross country is checked. Inside the control room in the “polo shed” Steph was able to see David Permezel and his team in cross country control going through a rigorous pre-start checklist with the fence judges and course crews and also be briefed by Emma Flegman (3* Ground Jury President) on the role of the Ground Jurors in monitoring horses as they progress around the course.
