Samuel Jeffree

What age did you start riding and how did you get into riding?
I was pony obsessed from a young age and was riding independently and attending pony club from the age of about 7. I attended my first Horse Trials when I was 8, and my first FEI competition when I was 14.

First pony/horse name/details
I had some borrowed ponies to start with, but the first pony I owned was a very naughty chestnut named Arakei. Arakei loved to go fast, which worked for me but was not always so great at pony club or competitions!

If you attended Pony Club, which one?
Macclesfield Pony Club – just down the end of our road!

What made you want to pursue Eventing?
Cross Country!

Assistance along the way from EA Coach/es?
I am very lucky to have had Will Enzinger as my lifelong coach, he is still a friend and mentor who helps me to this day!
I have also been lucky to have had access to other High Performance coaches along the way through the Victorian Young Rider and Senior Squad, as well as short term stints based with Jamie Coman and Boyd Martin (USA).
