2018 MI3DE has all the Bells and Whistles

In form Victorian Eventing rider Rohan Luxmoore could bring up a win for the locals when he takes on some of Australia’s best riders at the Saddleworld Melbourne International 3 Day Event at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre this weekend.

Luxmoore and a horse he bred himself, Bells N Whistles, have been a dominant force in the state’s Eventing ranks this year with wins in the CIC2* at Tonimbuk and Camperdown CIC3* and a second placing in the CIC3* at the recent Ballarat Horse Trials.

“It’s been a dream come true. I bred him thinking he would be a 1* horse and he’s turned out to be the best horse I’ve ever had,” said Luxmoore.

Last year as Australian team representatives for the Oceania Championships, the pair finished 7th in the CCI3* class at the MI3DE.

Luxmoore said he couldn’t be happier with the 15YO Irish Sport Horse leading in to Victoria’s most important Eventing competition.

“He feels really good, he’s older now and knows his job.”

The practising horse vet occasionally loans his star horse out to his children to ride. His 15-year-old daughter Isabelle competed on him at the Victorian Interschool Championships earlier this year and won the Combined Training class.

Luxmoore is a member of the Equestrian Australia National Recognition Squad and says the experience has been beneficial and positively impacted on his development.

“It’s been really helpful. I’ve had exposure to coaches that I would not usually get.”

Luxmoore will be hoping to join some of Australian equestrian’s greats including Olympic gold medallist Stuart Tinney, Shane Rose, Megan Jones, Andrew Hoy and members of the iconic Roycroft family on the MI3DE CCI3* honour roll.

Event Director Janet Houghton said good weather is expected for the event that begins tomorrow.

“The weather looks reasonable which is good for Melbourne 3 Day Event and Sunday is shaping up to be a great day.”

Houghton also commended the cross-country course layout this year.

“The cross-country course is amazing. The work they have put into the jumps and the presentation is stunning,” said Houghton.

Public entry is free tomorrow and tickets for remaining days of competition can be purchased online through www.m3de.com.au
