Boyd Exell Dominates in Maastricht to Extend World Cup Lead

Australian driver Boyd Exell reminded the world why he remains the benchmark in international Driving with a commanding victory at the second leg of the FEI Driving World Cup™ season in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

After an uncharacteristic setback on Friday night, where an error of course saw him relegated to the bottom of the standings, Boyd returned the following evening with trademark precision and power. In Saturday night’s drive-off, he and his exceptional team blazed through the course in 143.40 seconds, finishing an emphatic 15.39 seconds ahead of runner-up Bram Chardon of the Netherlands.

It’s rare to see Boyd anywhere but at the top, yet his Friday run proved that even the best can face challenges. A quick correction in the second obstacle added 28 penalties to his score, costing him a place in the opening night’s drive-off. But by Saturday, the Australian had reset completely. As the first driver to take on the course that evening, he produced a clear and blisteringly fast round, more than ten seconds ahead of any rival. Returning last for the drive-off, he pushed the pace even further, shaving off more time to secure his decisive win.

Behind him, Bram Chardon took second place on 158.79, while German legend Christoph Sandmann celebrated a welcome return to the World Cup circuit with third place, following his victory in the opening round the night before.

For Boyd, the result not only marked another World Cup win but also strengthened his lead in the 2025–26 series standings, now sitting on the maximum twenty points after two events. His ability to rebound from Friday’s disappointment to deliver such an extraordinary comeback underlines the precision, strategy and resilience that have defined his career.

As the World Cup season gathers pace, the Australian’s combination of experience, speed and instinct continues to set the gold standard. With upcoming rounds in Stuttgart, Geneva and Stockholm, all eyes will once again be on Boyd Exell, the man to beat on the world stage.
