Hoy poised for podium finish in Aachen

Australia’s Andrew Hoy and Cheeky Calimbo are sitting in third place at the Nations Cup in Aachen after the dressage and jumping phases on day one of competition.

Experience has piad off once again for Hoy, putting him in striking distance of a podium finish after a strong dressage score (34.50) and a clear show jumping round, one of only 17 combinations to go clear in the jumping.

Hoy currently sits behind crowd favourite Ingrid Kelimke (GER) and Holly Woodhead (GBR). With only seven points separating the top eight riders, there will be no room for error on the cross country course.

The CIC03* in Aachen has dressage and jumping on day one, with cross country phase yet to come – so anything can happen yet.

For Hoy his sights are firmly set on the Rio Olympics which are just under a year away. A spot on the Aussie team in Rio would see Hoy maintain his record for most number of Olympic Games for any Australian athlete.

The Aussie team is currently sitting in sixth position, with Kevin McNab and Casperelli in 35th and Paul Tapner and Indian Mill in 38th.
