Saddleworld Melbourne International Three Day Event

With 55 days to go until the Olympic Games, Australia’s Eventing hopefuls are continuing to fine tune their preparations for Rio at this weekend’s Saddleworld Melbourne International Three Day Event.

Olympic silver medallist Shane Rose and his 2015 Australian International Three Day Event winning horse CP Qualified lead the CIC3* after the dressage and show jumping phases. The pair produced a competitive test in the dressage phase and then jumped clear in the show jumping to carry 38.60 penalties into Saturday’s cross country.

Olympic gold medallist Stuart Tinney and his 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games mount Pluto Mio, also jumped clear in the show jumping and their 40.30 penalty score from the dressage phase has the pair ranked second with cross country to come.

Olympic silver medallists Megan Jones and Sonja Johnson fill the next two placings - Jones riding Kirby Park Impress is ranked third with 49.70 penalties followed by Sonja Johnson who was unfortunate to knock the first rail in the show jumping to finish with 53.90 penalties.

Tinney’s two entries in the CCI3* are currently ranked second and fourth after the dressage phase. Carlchen will start the cross country with 45 penalties while War Hawk, which was third at this event in 2015 has 48.30 penalties.  Sydney Olympian Amanda Ross riding Dicavalli Diesel separates Tinney’s two entries in third place with 45.60 penalties and it is Judy Clarke with the horse Diablito who leads the field, setting the pace with a score of 41.70.

Rose also has two entries in this class – Shanghai Joe and Glenorchy South Park are ranked fifth and sixth respectively.

The Saddleworld Melbourne International Three Day Event continues Sunday with cross country for all classes –action begins at 8:30am.

This event is the final opportunity for Rio hopefuls to impress national selectors before Australia's Rio team is nominated to the Australian Olympic Committee in late Jine.
