John Glenn, board member of Equestrian Australia

John Glenn was appointed to the Board to fill a casual vacancy in April 2019.

He spent more than 20 years as an Army Officer, with a sojourn in special forces, saw operational service in Cambodia and was a civilian dive instructor and coach in his spare time. He has now been working in the industry as a senior executive and consultant for just as long.

John owns and runs a consulting company with staff in four states, serving public and private sector clients in the turnaround of poorly performing projects and programs.  He is renowned in the industry for the development of pragmatic strategies, resolving complex problems through negotiation, and cut through project delivery.

He is, however, not renowned for his riding – having once been told by a British Colonel, “go see the Corporal and see what he can do for you”.  Which wasn’t much apparently. Despite the setback, he supports his wife Julia in her dressage and show pursuits, carrying things well.

He has also sponsored several elite event riders, privately supported the development of others, and has owned several high performance eventing horses.

John has been active in the community through Scouting, and as Chair of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra for five years during a period of commercial recovery.

He holds multiple degrees in arts, science, engineering, and management, and has been educated in strategic deal making and negotiations through Harvard Business School.

His passion is the creation of opportunity for people to excel at all levels – and the establishment of pathways for the talented to shine. This is what he would like to bring to EA.
