Australian Team receives generous donation from D'Arcy Slater Foundation

The D'Arcy Slater Foundation has generously donated $5,000 to help Australia's World Equestrian Games Para-Equestrian team.

The D’Arcy Slater foundation was formed in memory of 13-year old D'Arcy Slater, the only child of Bill and Christina Slater, who tragically drowned whilst returning to school at Guildford Grammar following football training. D’Arcy’s great sporting love was tennis but he was an all-round sportsman even dabbling in equestrian which led to his ownership of three horses named Nugget, Casper and Friar Tuck. D’Arcy was a horse racing enthusiast and even had a tipping competition with former 1972 Munich Olympian Richard Sands. It was said that D’Arcy aspired to be a racehorse trainer upon completing university.

The D'Arcy Slater Foundation acknowledges the positive influence sport, education, the arts and music can have on the personal development of youth in Australia. The foundation supports the WA Institute of Sport, Tennis West, WA Academy of Performing Arts and Guilford Grammar School. The D'Arcy Slater Foundation also sponsored the Equestrian Western Australia Service to Sport award which was won by well-known former jumping competitor and leading course designer Fred Freeman. Fellow Western Australia Para-equestrian Fleur Litzer has also been supported by the foundation since 2007.

Equestrian Australia thanks the DA’rcy Slater Foundation for its generous support not only to the equestrian community but to active youth in Australia.
