FEI Level 4 Eventing Officials
Australia's Ewan Kellet and Clayton Fredericks have just been announced as FEI Level 4 Cross Country Course Designers, two of only 14 in the world, along with top international designers that include Great Britain’s Mike Everington Smith and Captain Mark Phillips.
Ewan and Clayton are now qualified to design 5* level Eventing courses for the Olympic Games and World Cup events.
Ewan said about the achievement "To have achieved the upgrade to L4 Course designer is an accomplishment that I am very proud of. I’ve wanted the opportunity to design and officiate at 5*or championship level for a number of years. I’ve been asked twice to design at 5 star previously but due to Equine Influenza and the COVID pandemic this has not gone ahead. To have been judged as competent enough to perform this role by some of the leaders in course design is extremely satisfying after spending the last 25 years dedicated to designing and building cross country courses at all levels up to 4*. Without the guidance and belief of some very special people and the support and feedback from the riders this upgrade would not have been possible. Now to repay the faith all these people have shown in me."
Clayton was equally delighted, saying "Achieving this milestone is incredibly meaningful to me. As an Australian, it’s an honor to represent our nation on the international stage and to contribute to the growth and safety of our sport. I am also passionate about mentoring the next generation of course designers, and I hope this achievement inspires others to become involved as officials, contributing to the safety, quality, and growth of the sport we all love."
Ewan and Clayton join other Eventing Level 4 Officials from Australia, Stewards Penelope Dodd, Carolyn James and Christine Wallis and Ground Juror PollyAnn Huntington.
It is wonderful to have such highly qualified Australian officials in Eventing. Congratulations to all.
