Gawler World Cup Report

Gawler Show was blessed with perfect weather conditions which brought out a good crowd to watch riders from four states compete in the 'Lendlease' World Cup Qualifying Round. This was another Certificate of Capability (COC) Class so a solid track was set to meet this criteria by Richard Bruggemann.

A bigger field than last year saw 11 horses start in the class with a mix of experience to several horses having their debut at this level. Clem Smith's Guru & Russell Johnstone Beaurelais Centurion were on top of the leader board after the first round with both on four faults, Jeff Evans Fieldbrook Corunia was on 5 faults. Eight horses were invited back into the second round.

Four horses jumped clear in the second round Kartoon de Breve, Caltango, Beaurealis Centurion and Diamond B Vermont.

The winner of the Gawler World Cup for 2013 was Beaurealis Centurion a 13 yo gelding by Noblewood Park Collins ridden by Atlanta Olympian Russell Johnstone of Whittlesea Victoria. They finished on a total of four faults over the two rounds.

Second went to last year’s winner Victorian Tim Clarke and Caltango on 8 faults and third was Clem Smith & Kartoon de Breve from Queensland also on 8 faults. New South Wales rider Jess Stalling and Diamond B Vermont in their first world cup start finished in fourth place with 8 faults. Fifth place was Guru ridden by Clem Smith on a total of 12 faults.

The next round of the Australian league of the FEI World Cup Jumping Series will be held at the Adelaide Royal Show on 12 September. It will be the penultimate qualifying round for the 'Be the Influence' Equestrian Grand Final - Jumping to be held at EQUITANA Sydney from 7-10 November 2013.

Jamie Kermond leads the 2013 League on 37 points.
