Having won a second blue ribbon for the class in as many years, Shane Rose is the undisputed king of Exhibition Eventing at Sydney Royal.

The Olympic Silver Medallist and London Olympic Games hopeful was all smiles as he and his six year old gelding Virgil galloped to victory. The combination led the class after Dressage and put in a near faultless performance in the Jumping phase to secure his position at the top of the leader board.

The win secures Rose and the top four finishers a position at the Exhibition Eventing Grand Final which will be held as part of the Equestrian Grand Final which will be held at EQUITANA Melbourne later in the year.

“This event is a lot of fun for the competitors and it certainly gives people a really good insight into what our sport involves,” said Rose. “It’s something that is certainly going to grow in the future and will hopefully get more people involved in and enjoying our sport.”

Tim Boland on Umunga trailed Rose after the dressage and maintained this position after the jumping component to finish the day in second place. John Twomey and Wade Equine Highly Recommended, improved their fourth position after the first competition instalment to take home third place overall.

Jade Findlay on Frontier Psychiatrist ended the day in fourth position.

19 year old Tara Sheridan, finished in fifth place on It’s a Miracle and was awarded the prize for best placed rider under 25 years.

Domininic Ingvall gave the crowd a scare when she fell off her horse at the third jump. She was taken to hospital as a precaution and her horse, Kitara Diamond Edition, received stitches to its leg.

The Exhibition Eventing class is the first of two qualifying events for the Exhibition Eventing Final which will form part of the 2012 Equestrian Grand Final. This spectacular multi-discipline event will be held at EQUITANA Melbourne from 15-18th November 2012.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show will host an Exhibition Eventing class for the second year after last year's inaugural competition received much applause from participants, spectators and officials.

Exhibition Eventing reduces the traditional eventing format to a single day. Combinations perform a short Dressage component before completing a single jumping course against the clock. The course combines cross-country and show jumps and tests the horse and rider’s eventing skills without leaving the arena.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday 10 April and a number of high calibre combinations will be competing.

Shane Rose, Beijing Silver Medallist and London Olympic hopeful is contesting the title he won on APH Moritz in 2011. This year he’s hoping six year old gelding Virgil will deliver him a second victory.

“He’s a young horse, but he’s a super horse,” said Rose. “He’s a good jumper and he’s competitive so I think he’ll perform well.”

“It’s a great concept and I’m really looking forward to it, I think it should be fun,” he added.

Rose will have tough competition from Emma Scott and Mustang. The combination are in fine form after placing fourth at last weekend’s CIC3* in Albury.

Also competing is Dominc Ingvall and Ari Di Gwahir. Ingvall is hoping to make the Finnish Equestrian team heading to London.
