Hat Trick for Heath Ryan
Heath Ryan and Regardez Moi - winners of the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle at Toowoomba CDI-W |
Heath Ryan has won the Grand Prix of all three FEI Dressage Events in Australia this year
At Melbourne’s Dressage Festival CDI-W and Sydney CDI3* he won aboard Clyde Wunderwald’s Greenoaks Dundee. At Toowoomba CDI-W he won aboard Regardez Moi, the young Rubinstein stallion Heath and his wife Rozzie own with Dr Margaret Evans with a score of 66.500%.
Regardez Moi was second behind his stablemate Greenoaks Dundee at the Dressage Festival CDI-W in March and second again to Dundee at Sydney CDI3*.
With Dundee not starting at Toowoomba it was Regardez Moi’s turn in the limelight. By a margin of 0.5% the black stallion edged out Brett Parbery and the ever-improving bay gelding Victory Salute owned by Carolyn Lieutenant (66.000%).
Victory Salute has improved from event to event this year, rising from 8th at the Dressage Festival, to third at the Sydney CDI3*, then second at Toowoomba.
Another horse that is improving this year is Susie Duddy’s Donnerhall mare Donna Carrera, ridden by Rozzie Ryan. Donna Carrera has risen from fifth at the Dressage Festival, to fourth at Sydney CDI3*, to third at Toowoomba.
Olympic hopefuls are seeking scores of 64% or above from visiting O-Level Judges, and Minako Furuoka from Japan gave out three such scores, to Regardez Moi (67.292%), Donna Carrera (66.667%) and Port Said 10 (64.792%).
To be eligible for selection for the Beijing Olympics in 2008, horse/rider combinations must have received two scores above 64% from two separate foreign O-Level Judges at two separate FEI events. Heath Ryan and both his horses Greenoaks Dundee and Regardez Moi and his wife Rozzie riding Donna Carrera had already qualified prior to Toowoomba.
Following Toowoomba and Wiesbaden CDI4* in Germany this weekend, we now add Port Said 10/Mary Hanna and Kristy Oatley/Don Bolero 3 to the list of qualified horses and riders.
Other horses and riders with a partial qualification are Brett Parbery with Victory Salute and following Wiesbaden CDI4*, Kristy Oatley with Quando-Quando, and Peter Weston with a new horse at Grand Prix, Winslow are also half-way to qualifying.
Horse/rider combinations may qualify for selection until 30 June 2008.
Australia hopes to qualify a team at the Regional Olympic Qualifier in Sydney in October this year, against teams expected from New Zealand, Japan and Korea.
