Christine Haigh, EFA National Office, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 Lucinda Fredericks, riding the German Warmblood Prada (by Pik Junior) placed third for Australia in the FEI Young Horses (7 years) World Championships CCI** held over 18-21 October at Le Lion d’Angers (FRA). Lucinda finished on a score of 44.0.
The event was won by Britain’s Piggy French on the Irish Sport Horse Cast Away II, who led the event after the dressage phase on a score of 39.8 and went clear in both the cross country and showjumping phases. Her win was the first time since 2000 that the event has not been won by French riders.
Paul Tapner was also riding at the event on Sensational Sydney in the 7yrs class and Carry on Joseph in the 6yrs class.
The Le Lions event is widely regarded as a pointer to future stardom for the top young event horses of each year. The 2000 7 year old winners were Pippa Funnell (GBR) and Prinmore’s Pride, who went on to win three four star CCIs and a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
