Australia’s Boyd Exell placed second by just 3.2 seconds in the second round of the 2007/08 FEI World Cup Driving series in Stuttgart (Germany) last Saturday (17 November). Winner of the round was Netherland’s driver Ijsbrand Chardon.

Saturday’s result reversed the order of placings from the first round of the series, in Hannover on 28 October, where Boyd won and Ijsbrand was a close second. The results mean they now share the lead in the series, well ahead of third placed driver, Hungary’s Zoltan Lazar, who could only manage sixth place at Stuttgart.

Boyd used the same team at Stuttgart that he had at Hannover and said after the event, 'The standard of the competitors is very high and there is no room for errors. I am very pleased with my team, they are working super together and can accelerate amazingly. I am very lucky to have them!'

A crowd favourite at Stuttgart was 17yo German driver Michael Brauchle, who placed fourth against fellow German Christoph Sandmann. Both were driving on wild cards so were not included in the World Cup rankings. The young German is widely viewed as the up and coming star on the European driving scene, with excellent placings at several major events this year. Michael acknowledged the value of crowd support when he commented at the end of the event, 'It was super to compete in the Schleyer Halle, the feeling is great and I was amazed by the spectators, they are much better than at the outdoor shows!'

The next round of the series will be in Stockholm (Sweden) on 30 November-2 December.
