The first CIC in NSW since July 2007 has been successfully held at the Briars Autumn One-Day Event.

Originally, the event was organised into two separate competitions over two days based on EI zones in order to comply with biosecurity measures. Thankfully, the restrictions were eased before the event however the schedule was in place and Berrima ran all the CIC classes on Sunday, 9 March. In total the event had 271 entries.
Blair Richardson took out the honours in the CIC 3* riding his own 14 year-old Maximum Overkill on a score of 69.9 penalties. Second and third place went to Christopher Burton on the 9 year-old Unrepentant, owned by Anita Stafford, on 71.00 penalties and Newsprint on 75.30 penalties. Christopher was leading after the dressage on Newsprint but cross-country time faults and one rail handed the victory to Blair. Emma Mason riding Melody O’Toole’s F1 Pharinelli finished in fourth place.
Heath Ryan and Mystery Whisper were second after the dressage but incurred 20 penalties on the cross-country and 12 faults in the showjumping dropping them to 5th position.

The event enjoyed good weather and provided a great opportunity for horses and riders to finally compete at an international competition again and gain qualifications.  Thanks to the Berrima organising committee for being committed to the cause and remaining undeterred by the complications that EI imposed upon them.
