Sydney Eventing succesfully held CIC classes for the first time on 19-20 July.

The Sydney International Equestrian Centre once again played host to a midweek and weekend Eventing competition on Wednesday 16 July and on the weekend of 19-20 July.  In total over 700 horses competed at the venue during the two competitions.

This record number of entries was in-part due to the school holidays and the EFA and Eventing NSW “Winter Camp” held for juniors at SIEC in the three days prior to the event which had 100 participants many of whom stayed on to compete at the event.

For the first time the SIEC Eventing Committee ran a CIC competition at the weekend event for the 1, 2 and 3-Star classes.  In addition the event held a special “hitout’ class for our Olympic Team members and reserves, consisting of the 4-Star “Hong Kong” Dressage test and a two 4-Star Jumping rounds.

The 18 horse field in the CIC 3-Star class was won by the tireless Wendy Schaeffer on the seven year old chestnut mare Koyuna Sun Storm.  The talented Emma Armstrong and Vortrekker were second.  Dressage leaders Emma Mason and F1 Pharinelli (Salute) finished third.

The CIC 2-Star was won by Chris Burton and the 9 year-old gelding Kolora Stud Secrets. In second place was Kevin McNab and Kinnordy Galera (Gymnastik Star) and in third place were Melbourne CCI 2-Star winners Rachel Lee and Freestyler (Raise a Stanza).

In the CIC 1-Star Karen Irwin and her own chestnut thoroughbred Newman (Koman).  Karen and Newman had also won one of the 1-Star divisions at the midweek event.  In second place were Seamus Marwood and War Wizard (who won the CCI 1-Star at Melbourne in June).  Chris Burton and the 6 year-old Capricorn Zenith (Vivaldi) were third.

A farewell to the Olympic Team was held on Saturday Evening which was hosted by the EFA.  Geoff Sinclair was the MC and asked the riders a range of questions regarding their journey thus far and their preparation for Hong Kong.  The riders were full of interesting information.  Posters of the riders were made available which the riders happily autographed for their fans. Thank you to Main Event Photography and Derek O’Leary for providing the photographs for the posters.

A big thank you to the volunteer committee of Sydney Eventing, which has the ever-capable Event Director Sue Gunn at the helm and also includes Vicki Pigott, Niki Chapman, Kerrie Green, Jean Findlay, Mike O'Callahan, Rod Winchester, Denis Pigott, John Rose, Katrina Dukats, Vicki Burgess Camilla Mobray and many others.  Also a special thanks to all the judges  including John Vallance the jumping course designer, who put a big effort in on designing and building two great courses for our 4-Star hitout class.
