Linda Dobson, winner of the 2009 Copabella Classic
Over the ANZAC weekend the Copabella Classic took place in the scenic Princess Anne Arena at St Ives Showground, Sydney. The Copabella Classic is one of Australia's Premier Showjumping events not only featuring the nation’s best jumping riders and horses in action, but also offering spectators added entertainment with Fashions on the Field, a champagne tent, VIP Marquee and trade stalls. Dressage events were added to the 2009 schedule for the first time in the event's history, however the highlight event still remains the Copabella Grand Prix. Linda Dobson and Indigo from WA were the clear winners, beating 21 entrants in the Grand Prix class on Sunday afternoon. Eleven combinations jumped clear in the first round to go through to the jump off where Linda and Indigo produced a faultless round taking the victory from David Robertson and Chris Chugg who finished second and third respectively. The winners in the other jumping classes held over the weekend were Rebecca Seckold/Cool Customer and Ella Avery/Yalambi Ultima V in the Hamish Rogers Amateur Qualifier; Tom McDermott/SL Eclipse in the Musto/Logans Juniors; Tom McDermott again in the Magic Millions Young Rider Class; Andrew Inglis won the Agnes Banks Shooting Stars on Amira and veteran Laurie Lever placed first on Ashleigh Drossel Dan in the Winnining Appliances Welcome Stakes.
