Michelle Robson nominated for FEI Award
Popular Eventing groom Michelle Robson has been selected as a finalist for the FEI Grooms Award and will be traveling to Denmark for the Presentation Dinner in Copenhagen on 19 November. “I did not even know I had been nominated until the FEI called me this morning to and invited me to the Award’s dinner,” said Michelle who will meet Princess Haya in Copenhagen, “I am so excited.” Michelle Robson, 25, has worked for Shane Rose for six years and is completely dedicated to the horses. Shane and partner Niki Chapman nominated Michelle to the FEI.
Niki tells us about Michelle’s work at Bimbadeen Park.
Michelle works tirelessly to ensure all the horses are cared for. Michelle has travelled with Shane’s horses to the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Germany, Burghley CCI4* in 2006, Olympic Test Event in 2007 and the 2008 Olympic Games, as well as countless competitions around Australia. Michelle always turns the horses out beautifully and ensures Shane is in the right place at the right time (not an easy task). Michelle is not afraid of hard work and she does it all with a smile. Michelle work through out the Equine Influenza outbreak and cared for sick horses who where quarantined at in Warwick, Queensland. On returning home with the horses she continued to be dedicated to biosecurity measures that ensured Bimbadeen Park did not contract the disease.
Michelle not only cares for the competition horses, she also looks after the racehorses that are Bimbadeen Park for breaking in and pre-training. Once the horses leave the property Michelle follows their progress through their career, she can tell us which horse is racing from day to day and report on their results. She truly loves the horses and treats them all as if they were her own. She gets very excited when one of her ‘babies’ wins a race.
In 2004 Shane was badly injured when he was kicked in the face by a horse, Shane was in hospital for a month and during this time Michelle stepped up and ensured the business kept running, she managed the property and the casual staff that were employed to help with the work load. Michelle ensured the business continued to run in Shane’s absence, which ensured Shane was able to take the time to recover fully without having to worry about the business. Michelle has also been known to sit up all night with sick or injured horses to ensure they are as comfortable as possible, she puts the horses well being above her own.
Michelle is also a successful rider in her own right producing her current horse to two star level. Michelle assists Shane with his horse’s fitness and also producing young horses, she often does fitness work with the horses and reports back to Shane on how the horses are progressing. She rides some of the young horses in their first few starts and gives them a good introduction to Eventing.
“Michelle is a hard working and dedicated groom, she is completely reliable and always has the horses best interest as priority and she always wears a smile. When I have Michelle by my side I can focus on my job as a rider because I know Michelle has everything else under control. She is a fantastic groom and a good friend too me and also the horses,” says Shane Rose.
Congratulations Michelle and Good Luck for the 19 Nov!
