International Showman - Second for Australia
|
Australia performed extremely well at the inaugural International Showman of the Year competition in the UK, gaining second place. The title was contested on 17 August at the Ponies UK Summer Show - one of the largest shows in the world, with teams of four young riders representing Australia, England and South Africa. The competition consisted of 4 phases: Dressage Test, Hunter Jumping Course, Ridden Show Display, In-hand Show Display. For this first-ever competition, the EFA funded most of the travel costs for the team with an ICDF grant. The team was outfitted with Australian unifoms by the EFA and received additional travel insurance. Australia was represented by riders: Jessica Stalling (NSW), Jennifer McKay (VIC), Simmonette Thompson (SA) and Laura Thomas (VIC), Chef d'Equipe was EFA NCAS Level One Non-Jumping coach Judi Kopanica and EFA Show Horse Chairman Kerry Tempest also attended to judge part of the International Showman competition and other classes. South Africa has offered to host the International Final next year in November and the 3-Nation Organising Committee has agreed. New Zealand has expressed interest in sending a team, Dubai may be involved by then, and representatives will have a meeting with the USA in February. Following the experiences gained at this inaugural competition, the rules will be completed and qualifying competitions will be launched here in Australia so that other young Show Horse competitors may aspire to represent Australia.
