EFA President Russ Withers and CEO Franz Venhaus today met with representatives of the recently established Hong Kong Equestrian Committee who are on a brief fact-finding mission in Australia.
The main topics of discussion were competition and veterinary management aspects, including the sourcing of volunteers and their training.
The visitors also brought us up-to-date with developments in Hong Kong where an “Equestrian Company” limited by guarantee is being established to manage the Equestrian Games. A CEO for this company is due to be selected in the near future. Other management appointments will follow.
Hong Kong is facing a real challenge getting a management structure into place in the comparatively short time span left before the test event in 2007 and the Games themselves. Plans for venues and operations need to be finalised as soon as possible so that construction and service provider contracts can be prepared.
The visitors appreciated the chance to discuss a wide range of issues with people who were happy to share their considerable Olympic Games experience.
