An Australian team consisting of Kristy Bruhn, Peter Grant, Phillip Stephens and Anthony Thomas accompanied by Chef d’Equipe Jenny Sheppard will fly to South Africa this week for the second and final leg of the Tri-Nations Cup against New Zealand and South Africa.

The first leg of this competition was held in New Zealand 16-19 March 2006. South Africa emerged joint leaders with New Zealand on 11 points each. Australia is presently in third place with 6 points.

The points carry forward to the South African Leg to be held during the Easter Festival at Kyalami Equestrian Park, with team competitions on Friday, 14 April, Saturday, 15 April and the final (overall for both legs) on Monday, 17 April. With two nations on equal points in first place, this makes for an exciting final leg.

New Zealand in particular is fielding a very strong team including seasoned international competitor Daniel Meech who finished 12th in the individual classification at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Daniel also competed in the first round competition in New Zealand.

This is the first year the Tri-Nations Jumping concept has been attempted, with New Zealand and South Africa each hosting a leg in 2006. Australia is planning full participation in 2007 with an event at a venue still to be determined.
