For coaches insured through the EA insurance scheme:
If an incident occurs that may give rise to a claim, you receive an allegation of negligence, or you're concerned about any scenario, notify Equestrian Australia or Gow-Gates immediately. Do not admit liability. Contact the Gow-Gates Sport Team at [email protected] or 02 8267 9999.
They can advise on how to handle the situation — recording information, responding to concerns and protecting your position — and, if necessary, trigger a claim under the policies, giving you access to legal advice and defence under the Public Liability and Professional Indemnity policies.
Note that the Professional Indemnity insurance is a "claims made" policy: it is a condition of the policy that any potential claim is notified to insurers within the policy period in which you first became aware of it. This is why prompt notification matters. Notifying a claim will not prejudice the rates charged for your EA Coach Insurance — and early notification gives insurers the best chance of defending and protecting your position.
For coaches who have sourced their own insurance:
If an incident occurs that may give rise to a claim, you receive an allegation of negligence, or you're concerned about any scenario, we strongly recommend contacting your own insurer for advice.
