Burton the best of the Aussies after dressage at Badminton

Olympian Chris Burton riding Nobilis 18 is currently in fifth place at the end of the dressage phase at the 2016 Badminton Horse Trials.

The pair scoring 40.30 in what is Nobilis’ first outing at CCI4*.  

Burton said his horse had been a little overwhelmed by the atmosphere of Badminton but remained composed in the arena.

“He got so lit up in the trot-up that I was very nervous competing but I’m pleased that he went so well. He’s a nice horse.”

“There were a few little mistakes, but he’s always been good in the walk. He coped very well in the atmosphere and he did a lot really well.” Listen to Chris’ full interview

Sam Griffiths and his 2014 Badminton Horse Trials winning mount Paulank Brockagh were among the first combinations to complete their dressage test on Thursday and the combination rode to a personal best score of 42.20 which has the pair placed 11th.

Paul Tapner and Vanir Kamira are equal 24th and will carry 46.20 penalties into Saturday’s Cross Country. Listen to Paul’s interview

Bill Levett and Improvise round out the Australian contingent and are currently ranked 29th with 47.20 penalties. Listen to Bill’s Interview

Emily King (GBR), the youngest rider at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (GBR), fourth leg of the FEI Classics 2015/2016, produced the performance of the day and is in second place behind first-day leaders Michael Jung (GER) and La Biosthetique Sam FBW at the end of the Dressage phase.
