Burton is second at Blenheim CCI3*

Olympian Chris Burton’s recent run of success has continued with a podium finish at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials CCI3*.

Burton finished in second place riding Nobilis 18, an exciting prospect which the London 2012 Olympian hopes to add to his string of possibilities for the Australian team for #Rio2016.

It was the first CCI3* for Nobilis 18 and he stepped up to the plate with ease, finishing on his dressage score of 42.0.

“He’s been a really good horse, he’s been very consistent this weekend, but it’s his first time stepping up to three star so you never know what’s going to happen,” said Burton.

“We knew he could do it and for him to go this well is really positive for us. We’re completely excited about the way the horse has performed all weekend.”

The combination was seventh after the dressage phase but an excellent clear cross country round inside the time moved them into second position after day two. The pair solidified second position with a clear show jumping round on Sunday.

“When you look at his record you'll laugh at me but his weak phase would be the show jumping because he’s just so tricky to ride and train over the show jumps. Whereas Cross Country he’s always been a dream ride so he makes me look good.”

The event was won by US rider Clarke Montomery riding Loughan Glen, the pair also finishing on their dressage score of 33.8.

Kevin McNab riding Dustman also finished on their dressage score of 50.9 which secured them a top 10 finish.

Bill Levett riding Alexander NJ finished on his dressage score of 52.8 which saw this pair finish in 17th position while Sam Griffiths riding On the Brash finished in 41st position with the up- and-coming On the Brash.

The US based Australian Kate Chadderton (VS Mccuan Civil Liberty) finished with 86.3 penalties for 56th position.

Andrew Hoy chose to withdraw Cheeky Calimbo after the cross country stage after Cheeky lost both his front shoes on Cross Country and was left a little sore and bruised.

“I couldn´t have been any happier with his cross country performance around this very testing track - he jumped fantastic, was focussed on the fences and did a superb job! I am so proud of this most wonderful horse and the huge step he has made forward in the cross country phase this year.

Cheeky is such a wonderful, talented horse and moreover a dear friend who’s wellbeing and happiness is more important than anything else.”
