Chris Burton wins Le Grand Complet CICO3*

Chris Burton wins Le Grand Complet CICO3* in Individual at the Haras national du Pin (FRA) this weekend, keeping Quality Purdey on his dressage score after a clear round in the cross-country and in the showjumping phase.

The Australian Olympian brought back a second trophy in the CCI2* riding his second mount Limited Edition. What an incredible weekend for our Olympian!

CICO3* Normandy Council Trophy

Chris Burton remained on his dressage score until the end and dominated the individual ranking while France took the Team competition with British and German teams finishing 2nd and 3rd in the FEI Eventing Nations Cup.

If Burto had a mixed 2016 season in this show jumping event (it costed him an individual Olympic medal), things seem to have come back in order. Quality Purdey, his horse, jumped admirably and offered his rider his first crown here at Le Pin (Chris finished second in 2011 in the same class).

"I can not believe it! It's incredible! We are pleased with the way the horse behaved this weekend. It was a technical class. We are delighted. Very often, it all depends on how the horse feels. The tests come one after another and things can vary. My horse has really well jumped on the sand today. It is a wonderful feeling when you feel that the work pays and that it could have happened as planned in Rio ... but it's sport!

Last year, I had a few competitions where my horses did not jump. But you do not have to only focus on that because it was on that horse on a given day. I always work to improve myself on show jumping as much as on dressage and cross. These are different horses (Quality Purdey and the Olympic Santano II, editor's note). Quality is a good jumper and he made it easier for me today.

We tried a new team at the CICO3* of Aachen (GER) with two new riders, Emma McNab and Katja Weimann. They are very strong and will be part of our team A. I think we are building a good team for the 2018 WEG and we will be very strong in Tokyo.

I took part in the Grand Complet in 2011, it was my first competition in France. I had just settled in England, and that remains an amazing memory. I was riding my fantastic old horse that I had brought back from Australia. It was very exciting to go abroad because until then I had competed only in Australia and New Zealand. I will never forget this moment because I ranked very well this weekend there. I always liked Le Grand Complet, the Haras du Pin site is superb."

Our second Australian, Katja Weimann, riding BP Escapade, finished in 14th position in the individual 3* ranking.

Final results: TEAM – INDIVIDUAL.

CCI2* Devoucoux Trophy

One bar was expensive this morning in the jumping test of this CCI2* sponsored by French saddler Devoucoux. Chris Burton knew it. One mistake and he lost the class, beaten by his pursuers, French Philippe Perrin and South African Victoria Scott. But the Australian Rider's experience - a team bronze medallist and 5th individual in Rio - paid. And even though Victoria and Philippe have also signed a perfect round, Chris has been able to lead Jennifer Jackson's horse Limited Edition to victory!  « We’re excited to be here. It’s a lovely event, we always enjoy coming to France. The ground was perfect, the course was really tough with big fences but it rode really well and got good education. I’m glad he came through so well. A big thanks to owner Jenny Jackson. She’s been so supportive. She stuck with us and her horse. It hasn’t been the easiest horse but we’re delighted that he went so well today. »

Behind the Australian champion, French rider Philippe Perrin finishes with a great 2nd place riding Taichac de Tremas, which is their best result until now. Victoria Scott (RSA) concluded the show with a clear round on jumping test with the French horse Song du Magay, finishing 3rd.
