Edwina Tops-Alexander and California win Saut Hermès CSI5* in thriller

The challenging 1.60m course at the Grand Palais in Paris, designed by Frank ROTHENBERGER (GER), caused substantial problems for riders in the first round with 14 of the 47 competitors either retiring or eliminated.

Only three combinations produced clear rounds including Tops-Alexander who was the last to jump. She delivered the fastest time to secure the best position in the jump-off against Bertram Allen (IRE) and current female World Number 1 Penelope Leprevost (FRA) .

Allen was first to go and rode a fast round of 39.2 seconds but had one rail down. Leprevost, second in the arena, was clear with an impressive time of 41.44. But that pressure was not enough to stop Tops-Alexander and California who were in brilliant form at the prestigious show. They recorded a picture perfect clear round in 41.36 seconds and were fast enough to take first place by the barest of margins.
