Historic WEG Result for Australian Jumping Team

The Australian Jumping Team qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics today after finishing sixth in the team competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

It’s the best performance ever by an Australian Jumping Team in WEG history.

Chef d’Équipe Todd Hinde was elated after the day’s result;

“We are living on a high at the moment.”

“All four of the boys have ridden text book rounds over the three days. To have all riders jump 8 faults or less every day I couldn’t ask for more,” he said.

Final results and rider comments;

Jamie Kermond & Yandoo Oaks Constellation 13.53 – 2 rails 1 time, placed 29th  individually

“It was another really nice course not one you can attack as much as yesterday.”

“It was for the horse his third day in a row jumping 1m 65 and some of the toughest tracks you will get through. He has done great as he was empty today but he tried his butt off,” said Kermond.

Scott Keach & Fedor –  17.22 – 1 rail, 1 time placed 35th individually

“The horse jumped super. I am very happy with him.”

“He jumped today as good as he’s ever jumped,” said Keach.

Billy Raymont & Oaks Redwood  – 11.48 – clear, placed 23rd individually and through to final

“It’s amazing that’s what our whole life’s work is about. That two minutes in the arena was something else and that horse is something else.”

“He kept fighting all the way to the back rail of the last fence.”

“We have our whole career for a moment like this. We are coming from behind as an underdog team and we are getting a lot of support,” said Raymont.

Rowan Willis & Blue Movie – total 8.31 – clear, placed 11 individually and through to the final

“The team morale is awesome, it’s a great team and unit of blokes and they all ride great.”

“She was incredible she knew what to do today there was no way she was going to touch one. She wasn’t going to do anything wrong for me today.”

“To qualify for Tokyo is such a big relief and the boys are pretty excited. For a lot of people including us it was unexpected but we have four world class jockeys. We believe in our horses and ridden really well today,” said Willis.

 The USA won today's team event with Sweden securing the silver medal and Germany bronze.

The individual final will take place on Sunday September 23.
