Important Insurance Information for Course Designers

The Agricultural Societies Council [ASC] of NSW have advised that it is now encouraging all Showjumping Course Designers who partake in agricultural shows to take up personal insurance.

If Course Designers charge no fee or a nominal fee, the ASC regard them as an accredited “experts” offering a professional service and would not be covered in any circumstances by any of the Show Societies Voluntary Workers insurance policy.

The Insurers of the ASC have urged Show Societies to determine (by sighting or receiving a copy of their certificate of currency) if Officials, especially Showjumping Course Designers, carried their own Professional Indemnity and Personal Accident Insurance and, if they did not, to seriously consider using their services.

Unfortunately if an incident occurs, a Course Designer would not be covered under the Show Society’s Voluntary Workers Insurance.  And if the Course Designer has no insurance policy in their name, the claim will be made against the Course Designer personally.

The Equestrian Australia member’s insurance will covers course designers when working in a non-income earning capacity. If you are being paid for your work a top up insurance package is available for EA Officials at a discount rate. The policy provides comprehensive coverage for personal accident, public liability and professional indemnity.

The policy is available at the discounted rate of $150.00 and is valid from 1 July 2014 – 30 June 2015. You can take out the policy via EA online by clicking HERE
