Wooroloo invests in water jump

Competitors at Perth Horse Trials Association’s first fixture of 2018 (12-13 May) can expect to get their feet very wet as work is well underway on a $10,000 upgrade to the Wooroloo event’s water jump. Long-standing cross-country course designer, Wayne Copping, travelled from his home near Adelaide in mid-March to spend a week overseeing contractors fulfil his vision for a completely new water complex at the Wooroloo Prison Farm.

“We have been talking about renovating the water jump for a couple of years as the old jump was struggling to retain water any more, so it's fantastic to see this work happening,” said international course designer, Wayne. “I have a clear vision for the new complex which is significantly larger and will give many different options for some innovative new fences to suit riders from EvA65 right up to CCI3*.”

The work on the area includes extensive excavation, a new base and waterproof liner. Generous sponsorship from BGC Quarries provided a range of materials for the works. A dedicated team of Perth Horse Trials Association volunteers worked closely with Wayne and Alan Campbell of Brocklesby Eventing to complete the works ahead of the first event of the season at Wooroloo on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May. “I’m delighted with the way the new water complex is shaping up and I cannot wait to return in May to design and build the new cross country courses around it,” concluded Wayne.

Perth Horse Trials Association is grateful to the Department of Corrective Services who manage the Wooroloo Prison Farm, for their ongoing support.

Wooroloo 1 will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May 2018 at Wooroloo Prison Farm near Chidlow in the Perth Hills. Entries for classes from EvA65 up to CNC3* will open on KTrials in April. Admission is free for spectators - a range of trade stands and food vans will also be available.
