Young riders enjoy a successful tour of Mauritius

For the third successive year Australia has been represented at the international jumping competition hosted by the Centre equestre de la Louisa in Mauritius.

Representing Australia were father and daughter combination Shane and Ashleigh Giblett, Sydney sisters Samantha and Jessica Tripp and from south of the border in Victoria, Amy Cleland along with Joseph Patterson from Drumborg .

The team was accompanied by family members and experienced some real Mauritian hospitality in the lead up to the competition on the 8th/9th September 2012. Along with a number of teams from South Africa / Reunion Island and other Mauritian riders, the team members were again the recipients of warm welcome and hospitality from the Mauritian Federation.

The generosity of local horse owners supplied for the competition is a highlight and they as owners get a real buzz from the inclusion of their horses in the International competition. They are a mixture of South African horses and ponies with the majority supplied from the Mauritian Race Club as ex race horses that have been re educated for their new careers and in general are of good quality for the level of competition.

In the warm up competition Amy Cleland on Imperial Domain just missed out on second position. “Impy” is owned by de la Louisa client Monique Ernst and she is thrilled with his second place and in particular the way Amy presented herself. At the completion of competition Amy also won the “Coeur“ award which is judged by the judge and

Jury for the best presented and overall sportsmanship award in the senior division from the twelve riders competing.

Joseph Patterson in the junior division also won this award which was a great achievement for the Australian Team and was well deserved and an indication of the consistency and professionalism of the team as a whole.

The team competition had mixed results but a close fourth to Amy & Shane in the senior competition was followed by a good third for Samantha and Joseph in the Junior event. Both riders got the most from their horses Blazing Fire & Dazzling Mufftyand along with the rest of the team were praised for the way in which they presented and handled their respective mounts.

In the Children’s category, Jessica on Winter Blue had a very consistent show and Ashleigh on Charlie Brown who was a little less experienced than the other horses showed that they will be stars of the future with their polished displays of horsemanship on borrowed horses well away from home.

Team spirit is always a highlight with Aussie teams and this was no exception with a huge amount of support for each other and some bright lights for the future of our sport in Australia.

The Aussies again left a lasting impression on the hosts of this competition.
